SAP Awards Customers for Quality Excellence 2013
SAP (UK) Limited is pleased to announce the winners of its annual Quality Awards for their successful implementations of SAP systems. Each year, SAP presents awards to recognise customers who have achieved excellence in planning and executing their SAP projects, delivering significant benefits to their organisations.
SAP announced nine winners, who were awarded Gold, Silver or Bronze accolades. The winners were presented with their awards at the SAP Quality Awards 2013 Dinner, held last night, Thursday 24th October.
Each winner showcased the quality processes they put in place during planning and implementation phases, clearly demonstrating how fundamental they had been to the overall success of the project, resulting in significant benefits to their businesses. The judging panel was made up of representatives from SAP and external experts who judged against strict criteria including adherence to SAP’s Ten Quality Principles, demonstration of time-to-value and a focus on how quality excellence was achieved through the entire implementation cycle.
There were three categories and winners for the Gold Award:
Small Implementation: ARM Limited with partner Keytree
Medium Implementation: Essex County Fire & Rescue Service with partner Mouchel
Implementation: Asda Stores Ltd with partner Deloitte
The Gold Award winners are now eligible to take part in the SAP EMEA Quality Awards.
The Silver Award winners were Surrey County Council (with partner Capgemini) for Small Implementation, Sophos Ltd (with partner Deloitte) for Medium Implementation and Plan Limited (with partner ATOS UK) for Large Implementation.
The Bronze Award winners were Hillarys Blinds (with partner AgilityWorks) for Small Implementation, Sthree Management Services (with partner Bluefin Solutions) for Medium Implementation and British American Tobacco (with SAP Services) for Large Implementation.
"While very different in their scope, all award winning implementations required focus, direction and clear quality standards to ensure success and critically, support from users. All customers that received the awards deserve significant recognition, as without clear definition of the success factors at the outset and their commitment to the project’s accomplishment, the outcomes we have seen would not have been possible," said Tim Noble, Managing Director for SAP UK & Ireland.
Noble continued; "Through the SAP Quality Programme, we aim to work even closer with our partners and customers to help ensure that their software implementations are successful, providing fast time-to-value. I would like to extend my congratulations to each and every one of the customers and partners we recognised through this programme."
Small Implementation, Gold Award: ARM Limited
ARM is the world's leading semiconductor intellectual property (IP) supplier, with over 45 billion ARM-based chips shipped since its inception in 1990. Focused on the design and licensing of IP rather than the manufacturing and sale of semiconductor products, ARM is at the heart of the development of digital electronic products worldwide.
ARM worked with partner Keytree to create an intuitive online distributor portal to streamline and automate interactions between ARM’s System Design Division (SDD), the part of the business that sells tools to the microprocessor design community, and its distributors. This was critical as a number of acquisitions had led to new sales processes that were complex and needed to be simplified to maintain ARM’s high levels of customer service.
Working with Keytree, ARM has developed a portal, based on SAP Design Thinking, that is very user friendly and efficient. This will ensure distributor adoption to improve online sales processes, reporting and forecasting and ultimately helping to drive additional revenue.
With the global two-year rollout started in Europe in May 2013, and moving to Asia Pacific and the USA in the second half of 2014, positive impact has already been seen. ARM has real-time territory and customer channel information as a result of end customer details being captured and has been able to focus on its campaigns and efficiently leverage the use of distributors.
Medium Implementation, Gold Award: Essex County Fire & Rescue Service
With an annual budget of approximately £73 million, 1,500 employees, 51 Stations and over 100 vehicles responding to emergencies, Essex County Fire & Rescue Service (ECFRS) serves one of the UK’s most densely populated areas with 1.5 million residents. ECFRS also responds to emergencies on all significant road, rail and air transport routes and hubs; dealing with 30,000 emergency calls and 14,000 incidents per year.
Pressure on the infrastructure led to the need to replace informal, local ways of working with formalised and networked processes underpinned by a single entry of information. Essex worked with partner Mouchel to create and deploy an integrated, consistent and real time resource management system designed to improve community service provision and staff optimisation.
The solution brings together SAP Workforce Management by ClickSoftware, core business processes and Business Intelligence Reporting Tool (BIRT) to deliver effective fire fighter rostering; training; payroll; data management & ownership; and mobile applications. Critically, extensive data cleansing and data automation has provided universal access to data about qualifications, roles and availability, transforming service delivery.
Given the scope of the project, it was essential to engage business stakeholders early to drive consistency and ensure tangible benefits were felt by all. The successful project has already paved the way for planned personalisation of the services and additions including self-service and mobile tools.
Large Implementation, Gold Award: Asda Stores Ltd
Selling food, clothing, general merchandise, toys and financial services, British supermarket chain Asda has over 180,000 employees. This large organisation has been on a journey to improve the way its goods-not-for-resale (GNFR) spend is controlled by having one platform (SAP) across Asda and Walmart. This started with a the implementation of Ariba eProcurement solution for stores and depots, and this most recent project has seen the roll out of a fully integrated global Source to Pay solution based on SAP’s on premise applications.
Working with Deloitte as the primary partner, Asda delivered the first stage of the transformation in the UK; a pilot so successful that the programme has been transformed from a local to global project. It was a challenging implementation as the operational focus of this retail business gave only a four-month rollout window from June to September. Planning was essential to ensure that an aggressive rollout was balanced with a chance to pilot the system and processes gradually. To date, both financial and non-financial benefits have been achieved through cost reductions and staff efficiencies related to payment processes across the business.
