SAP Signs Agreement with the Government Procurement Service to Enable the Supply of Software to Government Organisations
SAP (UK) Limited today announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government Procurement Service (GPS) to enable the supply of SAP software to a wide spectrum of local and central government organisations. The MoU includes details on maintenance options and new software purchase discounts.
This agreement is the result of a government shake up, which looks at the way IT is procured across the entire government to reduce spending. The government believes that if it can improve the process of buying IT, making the process cheaper and quicker, millions can be saved without reducing the end benefits, which will have a direct impact on UK taxpayers.
Francis Maude, Minister for the Cabinet Office commented; “The old days of signing huge, inflexible IT contracts are gone forever. This new approach to doing business goes right to the heart of the efficiency agenda. This is better for business too – we now work more intelligently with our big suppliers. SAP is showing real leadership by grasping the opportunity to work more intelligently with the public sector.”
The MoU begins with immediate effect and entitles the government to purchase all SAP solutions, covering products on-premise, on-device and on-mobile.
“SAP is delighted to be continuing our relationship with the UK public sector and this agreement highlights a more mature way of us working together. The agreement allows for the sharing of resources across the whole of the public sector, therefore creating more flexibility and reducing overall costs. As Shared Services become more prevalent SAP’s licensing flexibility fully supports that model moving forward,” said David Mills, Head of Public Sector at SAP UK & Ireland.
