New Zealand Department of Conservation Collaborates with SAP to Strengthen Protection of Historic and Natural Heritage

State organisation is the first in New Zealand to implement SAP Work Manager to enhance efficiency for infield employees

Sydney - SAP today announced that the New Zealand Department of Conservation (DOC) has completed the first implementation of SAP Work Manager in the country, empowering its staff to more effectively inspect, repair and maintain the tens of thousands of assets provided for outdoor recreation and make better informed decisions on the move.

The new implementation is the latest addition to DOC’s portfolio of SAP applications including the financial management module, fixed asset management module, and the plant management module. This end-to-end portfolio is a result of the Department’s longstanding collaboration with SAP to transform and streamline its business processes and systems.

DOC is using SAP Work Manager as its infield data collection tool to provide its employees with a simple and reliable mobile asset management solution enabling them to work more efficiently and make better-informed decisions by giving them access to the relevant information they need on the move.

The application is being used by approximately 25 inspection staff to capture mission critical information from the 15,000 to 20,000 inspections that are carried out every year. It is also being used by conservation staff to respond to over 100,000 work orders that are issued on average for preventative maintenance on all of the assets.

“Data is at the heart of what we do. Managing the 72,000 assets in our portfolio is all about managing the tremendous amount of data that is associated with them. SAP Work Manager has enabled us to capture the volume of data flowing through our organisation accurately and enables us to efficiently communicate it throughout our organisation,” comments Mike Edginton, Manager Partnerships, Historic and Visitor Management at Department of Conservation. “Not only are we able to more efficiently deploy our resources, the solution also helps make my job easier. I am now able to gain a 360 degree view of our operations to help me provide strategic advice and ensure we have accurate information when we need to report to Parliament.”

One of the key successes of the implementation is the adoption of the technology by DOC’s infield staff. “SAP Work Manager has transformed the way I do my job. It allows me to work seamless in and out of wireless coverage and still have the confidence that all the work I have completed will be captured and sent back to the office backend systems. It’s intuitive to use and takes the frustration out of data management so I can focus on the job that I love doing,” said Emma Dunning, services ranger at New Zealand Department of Conservation.

The next part of the journey for DOC will be to extend the capabilities of SAP Work Manager across the entire organisation.
