2013 SAP 5O5 World Championship Sets Sail in Barbados

SAP NEWSBYTE - SAP AG (NYSE: SAP) today announced its continued sponsorship of the 5O5 World Championship, which takes place in Barbados, from April 22–May 3, 2013. The event features interactive analytics and technology from SAP to allows fans and sailors to experience the pinnacle regatta for the international 5O5 sailing class like never before.

"On behalf of the 5O5 committee, I'm thrilled to bring the 2013 SAP 5O5 World Championship to Barbados," said Andrew Davies, event director. "Barbados is not only a very special part of the world but boasts perfect sailing conditions for the 5O5 class. Working with our longstanding partner SAP, solutions are not only assisting the development of sailing around the world but also helping our regatta run more efficiently than ever before, we are confident of delivering a world-class event."

To bring sailing fans and spectators closer to the action the official regatta website, www.sap505worlds.com, will feature an online "Live Center." Real-time access to leader boards, 2-D and 3-D race visualizations, live text commentary and regatta updates will enable fans to follow all the race action as it happens. Post-race, SAP will make replays and visualizations available, allowing sailors and fans to review each leg of the regatta in their own time.

A live leader board and in-race commentary from SAP will also be available on mobile devices through a fully integrated mobile version of the website, http://m.sap505worlds.com. This will be available cross-platform, giving spectators and fans access to all the action in the palm of their hand and on the device of their preference, whether watching on shore or tuning in from the other side of the world.

"Through our partnership with the class, SAP technology will help sailors improve their performance, make it easier for fans to track and understand the race and deliver real-time insights to broadcasters."

SAP will work with the sailors throughout the regatta to provide a comprehensive breakdown of race performance, allowing them to pinpoint areas to improve their strategy and performance. SAP analysis of GPS data together with integrated wind measurements from sensors out on the race course will make information available on demand, including race rankings, average speeds, distance travelled, ETA at the next mark rounding, gaps to leader and gains and losses per leg. Sailor debriefs will take place daily in the SAP lounge, where SAP technology experts will take the sailors through these cutting-edge sailing analytics.

Following a successful 2012 launch, SAP will enhance the regatta for the 5O5 Race Committee, broadcasters, and fans through the provision of the SAP Race Committee App. The SAP Race Committee mobile app will simplify the communication between the race committee, spectators and other interested parties. With just a few simple clicks, the committee can schedule races, communicate the start and end of races, register start violations and update the status of each race on a publicly available website.
