SAP to Answer Need for Highly Secure, Enterprise-Grade Mobile Content Management With Easy-to-Use Mobile App
SAP® Mobile Documents to Give Business Users a Secure, Single Point of Access to Files and Ability to Share Content from Any Mobile Device; Solution Already Proven With More Than 11,000 SAP Users
BARCELONA, Spain - To meet heavy demand for simple, highly secure file synchronization and sharing in the enterprise, SAP AG (NYSE: SAP) today announced the SAP® Mobile Documents solution. The new mobile content management solution aims to help increase user productivity by providing a single entry point to personal business documents and corporate content via any mobile device. SAP Mobile Documents is a standalone software solution and when combined with the industry-leading1 SAP® Afaria® mobile device management solution, is planned to enable customers to experience a complete enterprise mobility management (EMM) platform for securing mobile devices, apps and content. The announcement was made at Mobile World Congress 2013, being held in Barcelona, Spain, February 25-28, where SAP is located at Hall 7, 7C70.
Today, businesses require access to content and files including videos, documents, spreadsheets and presentations on mobile devices. According to Gartner, “iPads and other tablets have sparked interest in mobile file sync solutions. Consumer-based solutions are popular, but it’s hard to find a secure, easy-to-administer enterprise-grade solution.”² Business content is often emailed and stored locally on mobile devices or stored on consumer-grade third-party file sharing sites, but these methods are deemed insecure by corporate IT departments. SAP Mobile Documents aims to help IT administrators centrally apply and enforce management and security policies to help ensure all corporate content is secure.
“Providing secure mobile access to critical content and data clearly is paramount for businesses. Our customers require a broad, easy-to-integrate enterprise mobility management platform for mobile security that covers everything from mobile device and application management, to mobile content management, and eventually the Internet-of-Things,” said Sanjay Poonen, president, Global Solutions, SAP. “The release of SAP Mobile Documents and our support for third-party mobile content tools will help connect the vast amounts of content and data driven from millions of business-class devices and mobile apps via the cloud. This new level of business collaboration and productivity far exceeds what existed only a few short months ago.”
“In our 2012 study of more than 30 content management implementations, Nucleus found that second and third-generation content management investments like the new SAP Mobile Documents approach can drive greater productivity and more streamlined processes up to triple-digit ROI,” said Hyoun Park, principal analyst, Nucleus Research. “In aggregate, our research determined that for every one dollar a company spends on content management, it can realize more than six dollars return on investment.” ³
SAP Runs SAP
To address business level security requirements not met from consumer-grade mobile content management solutions, SAP developed an internal version of SAP Mobile Documents. Stemming from the widespread adoption of this internal version by more than 11,000 SAP employees, SAP recognized the need to bring the solution to market.
“SAP has more than 53,000 mobile users and many voiced the need for enterprise-caliber mobile content management based on their personal usage of popular cloud-based offerings,” said Oliver Bussmann, chief information officer, SAP. “We created what is now known as SAP Mobile Documents and its rapid adoption exposed a significant void in the market. This led to a highly collaborative internal development effort by our IT and product development teams to enhance SAP Mobile Documents and make it market-ready. And by pairing SAP Mobile Documents with SAP Afaria, businesses experience an extremely robust EMM platform.”
Single Access Point to all Corporate Content
Through the adoption of SAP Mobile Documents, businesses large and small are planned to have multi-device access to all content through a single entry point. This aims to help ensure that employees have access to all of their personal business documents and corporate content, which is critical for workers who need the most current information at their fingertips.
“Our employees need to securely share documents on their mobile devices and we simply cannot risk using a consumer-grade solution,” said Quentin Hurst, director business system applications, Nuvasive. “Managing mobile content is an important part of our entire mobile strategy, and we need an enterprise-grade solution that will help us increase employee productivity by providing access to the content our users need to get their job done."
SAP addresses enterprise-grade mobile content management and security in four critical areas: authentication, encryption, compliance and sharing. Key features of SAP Mobile Documents are planned to include:
Open Choice for Customers
- A software development kit (SDK) for easily embedding powerful, secure file distribution capabilities into SAP and non-SAP applications
- Individual file sync so users can access the content they want, when they want it
- Corporate shared documents so enterprises can publish documents to user groups who need specified content
- Simplified interoperability with enterprise content management platforms, such as Sharepoint and the SAP Netweaver® Portal component, through the open Content Management Interoperability Services (CMIS) standard for the utmost level of flexibility, credibility and control
- Secure use cases for personal file access to portal content, knowledge management resources and Microsoft SharePoint
The mobile content management solution set from SAP helps ensure customer choice through a variety of internally and partner-developed products designed to meet the wide-ranging content needs for today’s businesses. For customers that have already implemented a mobile content management solution, SAP Afaria provides an additional level of confidence that the mobile devices accessing company documents are business-ready and secure. SAP Afaria supports leading enterprise mobile content management vendors — including Accellion, Alfresco, Box, OpenText, Soonr, WatchDox and YouSendIt — to help ensure companies minimize security risk while continuing with their existing solutions.
