    • SAP BusinessObjects Web Intelligence: turning information into timely, actionable insight. In this demo, you'll see how SAP BusinessObjects Web Intelligence enables you to: create a query from scratch or from a Web intelligence report, format the information, analyze it to understand trends, and share insights with colleagues using interactive reports, all without IT assistance. In this example, I'm an analyst in the sales organization of an apparel company. I need to understand sales performance by year and by state for the current year. Using SAP BusinessObjects Web Intelligence, I can access data from any database, Microsoft Excel spreadsheet, text file, or existing Web intelligence report. In this scenario, I prepare the data for interactive analysis from the business-friendly semantic layer, which presents data in a format anyone can understand. To define the data, I simply drag and drop objects relevant for my analysis from the data panel into the query panel. Then I run the query. Now the data about sales performance by year and state across all quarters is available for analysis. I’m particularly interested in understanding the year-over-year sales performance of all products. To do this, I select the templates tab and choose a bar chart from a pre-built menu of charts. Then I drag-and-drop “sales revenue” and “year” from the data panel into the chart. At a glance, I can see that 2009 revenues are lower than expected. Now I want to see performance by state, not just by year. To see this new view of the data, I create a new “section” by year, and a “cross-tab” by state. I can easily format the data by using drag-and-drop features, the right-click menu, and the tool bar. These features are designed for ease of use and enable free-form analysis directly within a Web intelligence report. Here, I can see that in 2009, Q4 sales have been down consistently across all states. This was not expected. To rectify this issue and bring the performance in line with the expectations, I need to share this analysis with the sales manager responsible for North America. To make it easier for the sales manager to quickly filter and personalize the report, I create an input control, or widget, that makes it easy to filter on product categories with one click. Because the report already has interactivity “built-in,” the sales manager can drill down on performance by product; slice, dice, and sort data; and share it with colleagues, partners, and customers. All of this can be done without IT assistance. As you have seen, SAP BusinessObjects Web Intelligence enables you to: create a query from scratch or from a Web intelligence report, format the information, analyze it to understand trends, and share insights with colleagues using interactive reports, all without involving IT.
