SAP Labs India is SAP's second largest Research & Development and Global Services & Support center in the world. Founded in November 1998, SAP Labs India is one of the four global development hubs (Germany, US and Israel being others) of SAP that contribute to all areas of the SAP product value chain- Research & Breakthrough Innovation, Product Development, Global Services & Support and Customer Solutions & Operations.
SAP's eight Labs in different countries are industry role models for globally distributed development organizations and contribute heavily to the goals of SAP's business units. Bridging the gap between local market demands and SAP's development organization, SAP Labs has set standards for excellence in innovation, efficiency, and reliability.
SAP Labs India researches, designs, and delivers leading-edge software applications that enhance and extend SAP® solutions, and is recognized within the SAP global organization as one of the prime contributors to innovation, quality and service. Of SAP Labs India's headcount, about 25℅ are committed to research and next generation product development. The Lab has contributed significantly to the recent innovations from SAP such as HANA, Carbon Impact and Charitra.
A team of four employees from SAP Labs India has won the HANA Olympics, a competition to develop the best applications on HANA, from amongst 623 teams participating worldwide, on May 2011 at SAPPHIRE Now, a premier technology event organized by SAP, testifying to the innovation culture at Labs India.
As a Global Services and Support organization, Labs India has the largest production team outside Germany providing assembly, validation and test services, and is credited as being the largest testing center within SAP. Accounting for close to 50℅ of SAP custom development, Labs India also provides remote maintenance services to approximately 80% of North American customers.
Employees of SAP Labs India spread across Bangalore and Gurgaon work in an environment with a rich culture of innovation. A unique practice of inviting the best global leaders as part of the Leadership Talk Series has seen leaders like Bharat Ratna Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, Former President of India, Dr. Kiran Bedi, Former Police Chief, Mr. N R Narayana Murthy, Founder and Chief Mentor, Infosys Technologies, and Nasser Hussain, Former Captain of English Cricket team interacting with the employees. Noted authors like Sudha Murthy and Anitha Nair have also visited for book reading sessions. Social entrepreneurs such as Arvind Kejriwal, Anshu Gupta, Harish Hand and Thorkil Sonne have addressed the Top Talents at Labs India.
SAP Labs India is a strong proponent of Sustainability and Social Responsibility. Project Lakshya which aims to educate 100,000 children from underprivileged background in 2011 through 35 computer labs spread across the country is already underway. Another project by SAP Labs volunteers, in collaboration with the Autism Society of India, is to train autistic children using iPad applications. The company has a unique electric car policy which envisages popularizing the use of electric cars amongst employees. By the end of 2011 SAP Labs India seeks to be the largest corporate owner of electric cars.
