    • How do you define success? At SAP, it means answering the changing needs of our customers in business and technology.
    • And for more than 10 years our professionals in system landscape optimization − SLO −
    • have provided support to make that success possible.
    • By responding to market and business changes, we've built an organization that helps customers
    • reduce landscape complexity and manage data better than ever before.
    • What started as a handful of SAP IT experts from headquarters taking a road trip
    • to our first customers has become a global organization of nearly 300 experts.
    • As a group, we've strived to innovate, to develop offerings
    • that help our customers in more than 25 industries run their organizations better.
    • In the beginning, we looked to identify the challenges customers would face in the new millennium,
    • and developed analysis functions to help them with Y2K conversion.
    • These functions are still used with all our transformation solutions.
    • That same technology helped companies to move to a new European currency and convert all local ones to the euro –
    • and that work continues today – totaling more than 600 successful conversions.
    • In 2002, we formally established the standard service concept with predefined methodologies, and the SLO group was born.
    • When SAP unveiled SAP Business All-in-One solutions for midsize companies,
    • the SLO group was called on to give our customers a leaner chart of accounts.
    • And when customers moved their data from non-SAP to SAP solutions,
    • we came up with the Safe Passage program to accelerate data migration.
    • The middle of the decade was a highly productive time for SLO.
    • We delivered innovative technology called SAP Test Data Migration Server software,
    • a high-speed extraction tool that lets customers use live SAP data
    • for test and development while using the same data in production systems.
    • Just listen to one of our customers.
    • So the main driver for us with test data migration server shell creation
    • was to minimize the cost for building our QA environment
    • as well as our development sandbox. We now, through the much reduced requirements for target system builds,
    • we see an almost immediate return on investment due to the cost savings of disc allocation.
    • By 2006, SLO had grown into a global organization with highly developed skills, and we opened a development center in India.
    • Our expertise has helped companies of all sizes manage data migration for the general ledger and other purposes −
    • especially midsize and small businesses using SAP Business ByDesign solutions.
    • As companies tried to make sense of IT solutions that accumulated over time,
    • we offered a custom development management cockpit to analyze their unused custom developments.
    • We offered a near zero downtime service to customers like Nestlé,
    • providing a safety net to reduce downtime for incremental upgrade and Unicode conversion.
    • And we provided quick upgrade analysis and technical upgrade planning tools for system consolidation.
    • With a depth of knowledge and years of experience, we progressed from project work
    • to defined service offerings to products like SAP Landscape Transformation software.
    • This software has helped customers like ADP reduce complexity by moving from a regional landscape to a single data center.
    • And today, we're excited to be helping customers with landscape transformation
    • as they adopt a revolutionary offering − SAP HANA appliance software.
    • At the System Landscape Optimization group, we aim to help customers build and
    • strengthen their business so every customer can be a best run organization.
